Elaeagnus angustifolia is commonly known as silver berry, oleaster, Persian olive, russian olive or wild olive, or commonly referred to as Senjid or Sinjid in Afghanistan and Senjed in Iran, is a species of Elaeagnus, native to western and central Asia, Afghanistan, from southern Russia and Kazakhstan to Turkey and Iran. It is now also widely established in North America as an introduced species.  The Elaeagnus family is often categorized as a problem with escaping cultivation in the United States.  If you live in CT, CO, or NM is is likely against the rules to grow it.  East of the Mississippi it rarely escapes and is a problem.
