Chester is an early, fine tasting, semi erect thornless blackberry. Hardier than many varieties of blackberry. Most winter hardy of all the thorn-less cultivars. Berries are firm, color does not leak or fade in sunny weather. Will produce well in the deep south. Vine is resistant to cane blight. Ripens mid to late-August in Maine.
